The Jim Mitchell Community Park, designed and built by Pellettieri Associates, opened to the public on 10/10/10 at 10:10 am. The name of the park honors Jim Mitchell, who imagined a three-season community park between the bookstore and the library for music, authors and the arts. He was also entranced by the idea of an outdoor community gathering place in downtown Warner as a way of giving back to a town he so loved. Jim had created the plans and started promoting the park design when he died suddenly in 2008.
The Jim Mitchell Community Park serves as a magnet for the gifts, talents, and resources that the people of Warner and the surrounding area have to give, and provides an inviting granite terrace with benches, tables and chairs for people to relax, meet, and talk with friends and neighbors. The park stands as a daily reminder to us to move respectfully, with humor and grace towards others, and to always remember that, to use Jim's words, “Something Wonderful is Happening in Warner.”
