The Jim Mitchell Community Park

On June 4, 2008 Warner lost a beloved adopted son and "local hero", Jim Mitchell. For ten years he ran and operated MainStreet BookEnds with his sister and family, proudly hosting over 300 events a year in The Gallery, promoting the artists, musicians and writers of the area and the beauty and uniqueness of Warner far and wide. He was a host for Yankee Communications, a local cable program interviewing local personalities, and it was here that he coined the phrase "One more reason, Something Wonderful is Happening in Warner". As weekend news anchor for WBZ NewsRadio1030 in Boston, he interviewed people from all over the world and all walks of life, but always heralded his pride of living in Warner, New Hampshire. He helped found MainStreet Warner, Inc. as a non-profit to further everything educational, cultural and historical in Warner.

How You can Participate

Generous donations in his memory are making it possible to begin phase II of the Park that he envisioned and designed for the town.  He wanted it to be a place that honors the many families of Warner, our artists and musicians and writers, and above all the children who hold the future for the town.

The MainStreet Warner, Inc. Annual Literacy Project

Every year MainStreet Warner, Inc. organizes a Literacy Project for the children of Simonds School to expose the students to someone who has contributed to reading, literature, and literacy. Warner’s own David Elliott was this year’s presenter. David, a New York Times bestselling author, presented a copy of his book “And Here’s to You” to each child. He also spent time with the children form each grade, where they talked about writing and reading, and created poetry together. Funding for this Literacy Project is being provided through the generous support of the Warner Fall Foliage Festival.

MSW created the Read Across Warner Literacy Project, a collaboration with Simonds School and the Warner Fall Foliage Festival. This brought Warner authors David Carroll, True Kelley, David Elliott, Lucinda McQueen and Jack Noon into the elementary school to expose the students to writers and illustrators who have spent their lives in the creative process. The following year MSW brought to the school renowned children's author and illustrator Steven Kellogg, with each child receiving an autographed book.
